Harry Potter & The Prizoner Of Azkaban

RB2_102b_cb_004

This shot was used in the UK trailer.
Work carried out on this included;

  • custom Renderman Shader Development; surface (glass refraction), volume (church hall volumetric light), light (projected image plate of sirius) & displacement though not all of these were used in the final shot
  • Slim Template development - primarily a color to vector adaptor plugged into a custom manifold template to allow fractal perturbing of texture coordinates - it looked really psychedelic!
  • Maya 5.0 work; it is a locked shot so no match moving, but rig setup primarily
  • Manipulating plates in Shake. Alpha gradient to remove hard bottom edge of plate, image adjustments, that sort of thing.

RAT5.5/6.0, PRMan 11.5 and RedHat 7/9 were used.

Tools

Some of the Tools i've created

  • NoiseTweaker - a linux interactive gui util using c++/wxWidgets to pre-vis in-house shader noise
  • Windowbox - a set of mel scripts, maya 6.0 plugins, prman dso's and c++ binaries and shaders for art directing, previewing and managing assets for windowbox.
  • exrpeek - a handy c++ binary to output pixel rgba values to stdout at a given x,y coord. Enables feedback for decision making in python scripts that drive command line Shake.
  • bubbles2d - a slim shader to allow any b&w matte to be converted from hard edges to halftone bubbles
  • normalize - a python script that uses exrpeek / shake to normalize a depth pass sequence to its global min / max values
  • bake.h - shader header tools for baking using bake3d
  • dem2tiff/img2tiff/srtm2tiff - file converters for NASA proprietary format satellite images
  • brdf - image based brdf solver (significant involvement, but not a solo effort)
  • atof/atov - very simple dso's that do what C++ atof does (v is for 'vector' in atov)
  • flomap - a direction vector paint program. Used to create textures for anisotropy in shaders and controlling particles
